She is away again…

He came back home from office. The doorbell rang. No reply. As a routine he tried calling her on her cell phone before leaving from office but of no use. It was switched off. It was becoming a pain these days reaching her. Her cell phone was playing nasty these days, some days getting drained way too quickly, sometimes not charging properly, sometimes switching off automatically, etc. giving all sorts of problems. As if it has taken a responsibility of all the mobile problems on its shoulders for being a Guinea Pig. And all the more frustrating was that she was still fine with it and was not ready take a new cell phone.

Again a long sound of doorbell with no reply from inside! With irritated expressions he searched for the bunch of keys in his pocket. It’s always irritating particularly after getting married to open the door with keys without seeing wife opening the door for you after a hectic day. Just the way the expectations of a girl from a boy changes after marriage even guys have some expectations too! Anyway so she was not at home. He opened the door with keys and got in.

Where is she? She is getting irresponsible day by day. She didn’t even bother to tell me that she will be going out when I will reach home. How can she behave like this? With mind all cluttered with such questions he again searched in his pocket, this time for cell phone. When he called her the phone rang from inside the house. Now that’s damn irritating! She is out without even carrying her cell phone. So there is no way in this earth he can find out where she is.

Hey wait a minute! Let me recall whether her car was there in the parking lot. Yeah it was. Was it? No I am damn sure it was. After the surprise incidence he now notices whether the car is there in parking lot or not. So she must be out walking, may be for some small shopping. That sounds logical. Isn’t it? That’s his engineering brain analyzing the situation!

He simply changed his clothes and started watching TV. As she is nearby once she will come she will make tea for both of us, he thought. Now that may be rude but that’s how guys are!

Anyway it’s more than an hour now. God damn where is she? He picked up his cell phone again to realize that her cell is still back home and not with her. Now he was getting worried about her. So he asked neighbors about her but no use. No one has any clue. He decided to scold her when she will return home. But when will she return? Where is she? It’s almost two hours now and almost 9PM and she is still out with no clue where she is, with whom she is, what is she doing, is she alright? No clue absolutely.

Another hour passed in this frantic search. Few more phone calls to her friends with no reply. And each call was freaking him out. It was almost 10.00PM when doorbell rang. He hurriedly opened the door to see her at the door.

He just let her in and stormed at her, where were you? Can’t you tell me? Is this the way to behave? And what not! Why didn’t you carry your cell phone with you? It’s a mobile phone! Do you understand the meaning of mobile? God damn it’s not a static (again engineer in him) land line. She just told him her cell phone went out of battery as usual so she just put it on charging and went out. She was out since evening with her school friend to whom she met after may be ages. Hence she was late. He said that’s fine but can’t you tell me, calming down a bit! She just said you didn’t have anything after coming from office right? I want to have some tea, do you want some? By the time he was asking the question, how you know that I didn’t have anything, he realized what the answer would be. She just put the box of biscuits and tea in front of him which had sticky notes saying I am going out with my school friend. Will be reaching home late! Please make tea for yourself. And he said not again!!!
